How does an Applause Murder Mystery work?

1. Individual character games – bring out the super sleuth in everyone! Recommended event type: smaller-sized team building, birthday parties, hen’s nights, Christmas function

• Pre-allocated characters for every guest
• Secret individual instructions distributed by the host on arrival
• Countless opportunities to bribe, backstab, and coerce

Much like your traditional Murder Mystery dinner parties, each guest will work individually to work out who the Killer is…but that’s not to say they can’t secretly creative alliances!

2. Team-based games – form a team and compete to find the culprit! Recommended event type: larger-sized team building, staff social functions, fundraisers, big birthdays

You can get into teams at the event, or pre-allocate the groups. The actual game is run like a Trivia Night, with a host running three rounds of questions and activities for teams to win clues to figure out the murderer. This is great for big groups, or groups with shy personalities who don’t like being put on the spot.

Which Murder Mystery Game is better for me?

The easiest way to answer this question is to chat with our expert Murder Mystery gurus (yep, they exist!) who can ask you the perfect questions to find out what’s best for you. But, if you want some more information to help you narrow it down, then ask yourself these questions:

• What sort of storyline would people like? We have many themes to choose from (see below) and each caters to a different interest, style, and budget.
• What sort of engagement will get my team excited? Everyone’s different, and some groups do better in a team environment than one-on-one.
• Is this more for fun, or more to create team cohesion? If it’s the latter, you’re better off with the group games that give more opportunities to work together. If it’s more for fun, then either one would be fine.

How many Hosts do I need?

Applause Entertainment’s Murder Mystery character hosts set our games apart from the rest. Depending on your group size and needs, the host requirement varies:

• 1x Host – up to 40 people. The host’s energy will help get everyone into character, and immersing in the plot. The host will greet them in full character, and the fun begins! You won’t have to do a thing as the host takes charge with every element of the game.
• 2x Hosts – 20-60 people. Your guests will be treated to a “show” of banter and interaction between the characters. The extra host will ensure every guest will receive attention and keep everyone on track and engaged in the story.
• 3x Hosts – up to 80 people.  If you find yourself with a full-blown guest list, you’ll want to give them the full-blown experience. 3 hosts will ensure that the night runs smoothly and efficiently, with everyone getting involved and interactive. Experience the excellent banter between the hosts for a hilarious evening!

What themes are available?

We have many different themes, with more on the way!

Team Game Themes – Hollywood Scandal, Tracy Gang (1920’s Gangsters), Haunted Horrors, Wild West, Caribbean Cruise, Christmas Capers, Fairytale Fiasco, Murder on the Dancefloor (1970s Disco), and Death at the Diner (1950s Sock Hop at the local diner). And introducing Pandemonium at the Prom (1980s High School Prom)!

Individual Game Themes – Murder Mansion, and Murder in the Hollywood HIlls!
